Raise your hand if you’ve found yourself drinking more these past few months. (Same!) Now raise your hand if it’s led you to wonder more about what goes into the bottles you’re drinking.
Maybe it’s time to pair some wine education with all that bottle opening? Barcelona Wine Bar is here to help. The popular Spanish spot has launched a series of free monthly virtual classes—and they’ll provide the wines, too.
Before tuning in, pick up the class-specific bottles either from the restaurant directly (call ahead, or order online for contact-less pickup) or via Wine.com, which has partnered with the restaurant to select specific bottles to pair with each class.
Then, open a bottle and log on.
Led by Barcelona Wine Bar’s certified educators, each topic (Iconic Red Wines of Spain, for example) includes four 25- to 35-minute video sessions, which you can watch at your convenience. The videos are info-packed primers that cover a specific region or varietal. Maps and images give the presentation some context, while the teachers share deep knowledge about the region’s wine history, geography, and grape varietals.
At the end of each video, the teacher walks you through a tasting with tips on how much to pour, what aromas you might detect, and how the wine should taste—but we won’t judge if you sip along the way.
Since launching in April, they’ve continued to add a range of videos. Look for the class library on the restaurant’s website, or mark your calendar for this month’s class: Appropriately timed for summer, it’s all about Spanish Day Drinking. barcelonawinebar.com
