
A native of Mariemont, Ohio, just outside of Cincinnati, DR. EWALD attended Vanderbilt University where he received his undergraduate degree cum laude in mathematics. He attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, followed by an internal medicine internship at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.
Dr. Ewald received his Ophthalmology residency training at New York University and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, where he served as Executive Chief Resident. Dr. Ewald was then chosen for a coveted position as a Cornea and External Disease fellow at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Ewald is a board-certified Ophthalmologist (American Board of Ophthalmology). He is a member in good standing of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the Cornea Society. He is past president of the Nashville Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology, for which is serves as Chairman of the Young Ophthalmologists’ section.
Dr. Ewald joined Cornea and Cataract Consultants in 2016. Prior to that he served as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University and serviced as Director of Medical Student Education for the department of ophthalmology. Dr. Ewald brings experience to Cornea and Cataract Consultants in medical and surgical corneal disease, cataract surgery including laser-assisted cataract removal, laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK), treatment of dry eye syndrome, and the treatment of Keratoconus including Cross-Linking.
