What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that I can sing! I come from a singing family. My dad was in the music industry, and he promoted artists like Prince, K-Ci and Jojo and more! My sister is international recording artist, Valerie June and you may find my four siblings and I on stage with her at any of her shows! We’re a singing family! It’s in our blood.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my entrepreneurial spirit. It drove me to further my education, getting an MBA and storming the corporate world by storm – leading the weekly campaigns for iHeartRadio and running my own full-time blog.
How would friends describe you in three words?
I’m charismatic, ambitious, and nurturing. My friends know that I am 100 percent for them in each of these three ways.
Tell us about a skill or activity that you’ve always wanted to try or one you’ve learned and mastered?
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play an instrument! My sister is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and I find it incredibly inspiring. I’d love to play the piano and then bang on an electric guitar while singing!
Name the person who has been the greatest influence in your life.
My greatest influence has been my late father. He was a general contractor, minority business owner, music promotor father, and so much more. He was good at it all, and he literally put his heart and soul. He’s why I have no problem being a multifaceted business woman with a passion for living the good life!
Name an organization or non-profit that you affiliate with outside of work and why it’s important to you.
My sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc. is the oldest African American Sorority in the world. This year, we celebrated 113 years. I joined the illustrious University of Memphis Chapter in 2009, and I’ve not looked back. The scholarship, sisterhood and service to all mankind are truly what this group exhibits. It’s an honor to be a member, and to be able to connect with Sorors (sisters) across the world to live out the mission.
What are a few of your favorite places in Nashville?
My number one spot goes to the National Museum of African American Music. The music fanatic in me appreciates a million visits to this place to relive the rich history and culture. Brunch at Sinema is always a move! Drinks at Grand Hyatt Rooftop or Virgin Hotel. Spa Day at Grand Hyatt. Cheekwood for all the nature feels and creative exhibitions. The Ryman for the best shows! Gaylord Opryland for the best Christmas exhibits (family tradition that my dad started. Best coffee dates at Barista Parlor. Strolls through 12 South are incredible.
Tell us about your routine/tips for looking and feeling great inside and/or out (salon, spa, fitness, wellness, well-being, etc.)
I work out with my trainer Gerrell Webb, and it’s safe to say hes the best in Nashville. When I’m not with him, you may find me running the Capitol Stairs or taking a stroll through Cornelia Airforce Park. I also enjoy Spa Days at Grand Hyatt!
Describe your perfect day.
My perfect day is a day spent with my husband, Mr.Sweet! We’ve been finding adventures together for more than eleven years and will proudly be welcoming #BabySweet, our daughter, in on the fun in December. From trips to a museum, hosting friends, finding new eateries, and more, I enjoy every second with my little family.
Special thanks to Grogan Jewelers by Lon for bringing some extra sparkle to our shoot!
