Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Here's some ways to honor and celebrate African American history and culture in Music City.
Join Nashville Jazz Workshop on June 17 from noon to 6 p.m. for their Juneteenth Jazz and Art Live Experience. See performances by Indiana University Jazz Program, a parade featuring New Orleans-inspired ensemble Roland Barber and the Righteous Few Brass Band, and more.
One of Nashville’s biggest Juneteenth celebrations returns with music, food truck fare, a kids corner, a firework show, and more. Celebrate the national holiday on June 19 at Fort Negley Park. The event is open to the community at large and is held from 5 to 10:30 p.m.
National Museum of African American Music
The National Museum of African American Music is celebrating Black Music Month with a series of events including a Juneteenth Block Party and Community Day. Join the museum for their Block Party on June 18 and for the Community Day on June 19. Guests will have free admission to the museum on June19. Community Day will also feature workshops and celebratory activities.
