Hermitage Golf Course, founded in 1986, is not only family owned and operated, but they treat their guests as if they were family, too.
The courses are well maintained, the food and drinks are southern hospitality at its finest and Martha the bulldog -- the unofficial mascot of Hermitage -- greets you as if Hermitage is truly your home away from home.
The course features the General's Retreat eighteen-hole course, plus the President's Reserve eighteen-hole course, which opened in 2000. Overlooking the property sits eight cottages, where guests can 'stay and play,' putt on a private green, hang out by the private fireplace and more.
On any given weekend, Hermitage Golf Course sees about 1,200 to 1,500 people hit the green, and it's not hard to see why: The course(s) showcase beautiful scenery, as they are set along the banks of the Cumberland River, play is affordable and includes a cart rental, GPS golf system and a bucket of range balls, and the food at Hickory Sticks Grill is pretty darn good, too.
Breakfast is served all day, and while a burger or sandwich might hit the spot, don't dismiss the entrees. Start with spicy fried pickled okra paired with comeback sauce, then take a bite out of the grilled salmon, topped with Asian cucumber slaw and sweet chili sauce, Yukon gold potatoes and grilled vegetables. Or, try the seared ribeye with avocado tomatillo sauce, cilantro sour cream, spicy pico de Gallo, plus roasted Yukon gold potatoes and grilled vegetables. And what's a good meal without a good drink? Pair your entree with a glass of wine, brew or creative cocktail like the dulce vida (a spicy margarita) or the Bombay Sapphire mint and strawberry smash.
Guests do not have to play the course to eat at the grill and dinner is served daily, until 8 p.m.
