Laura Niewold and Sandra Lipman are Nashville mainstays when it comes to fundraising for a great cause. Now, this dynamic duo is co-chairing the Conservancy Gala Finale: The Sky’s The Limit.
The Gala is the main fundraiser to support two of Nashville’s crown jewels: the Parthenon and our 132-acre Centennial Park (where the gala will take place). Over the past twelve years, the Conservancy Galas have raised $4 million dollars in support of the many exciting programs within the park such as the ECHO classical chamber music series, public art exhibits, Kidsville, the Musicians Corner program, and other important initiatives.
This year’s event, which marks the beloved fundraiser’s final bow, will take place November 5 and promises to be an unforgettable showcase like no other—full of surprises, sizzle, and style. The first Conservancy Gala provided fire juggling and fire dancers, and that level of excitement and creativity has only increased over the past 12 years. As they gear up for the last Conservancy Gala, Niewold and Lipman sat down with us to talk about creating a memorable finale for this important event.
Nashville Lifestyles: What was it about the Conservancy Gala that made you want to co-chair the event?
Lipman: Twelve years ago, my friend Sylvia Rapoport talked to me about her vision of starting this fundraiser. My interest has remained steady over the years watching the successes of the Gala, and now finally I am able to be involved in a significant way. I am thrilled to be chairing this wonderful event with Laura.
Niewold: When Sandra asked me to co-chair the Gala with her, I readily agreed knowing her expertise and enthusiasm would create a successful fun event. I am honored to be a part of preserving our Nashville icons Centennial Park and the Parthenon.
NL: Who has most inspired your philanthropic endeavors?
Niewold: I admire so many of my close friends and family who are philanthropic and make so many contributions to our community.
Lipman: I have had many mentors and friends I look up to who have influenced me. My dad always encouraged me to give back to my community, and I have to say, it’s the best feeling!
NL: What inspires you to utilize your time, talents, and treasure as a volunteer?
Niewold: Every volunteer job that I have undertaken has enriched my life by making new friends and becoming educated about the organization.
Lipman: Making a difference and giving back is a large part of who I am. I love devising a plan, setting goals, utilizing my creativity, and raising dollars all while working with and meeting interesting, imaginative, and sometimes new people who become lifelong friends.
