Get Groceries With Your Smashburger
At its height, Café Roze’s online bodega was selling toilet paper, milk, bread, and mangoes. Since people are now more comfortable going to grocery stores, the need for some things has slowed, says owner Julia Jaksic. But the whole experience has given them a chance to do R&D, especially as they think ahead to the soon-to-open Roze Pony in Belle Meade.
“We got a call asking if we would sell our Roze syrup [which goes into lattes at the restaurant], and we thought, well yeah, we can sell that,” she says. “It’s been a fun challenge.”
Here, a few more spots where you can pick up pantry staples, along with a to-go order.
Though the offerings will shift as the restaurant readies for reopening, you might find local milk and bread, Greener Roots greens, herbs from Bloomsbury Farm, and Kentucky farm eggs, plus their own proprietary items, like avocado hummus, miso ranch dressing, and Roze syrup. caferoze.com
A long list of grocery items ranges from salsa and iodized salt to almond milk, basil mayonnaise, and produce bundles. Of course, they’ve got you covered on coffee beans and pastries, too. frothymonkey.com/grocery
Look for hard-to-find Japanese and Asian pantry items like chili oil and house burnt miso butter, as well as items from Proper Sake Company. otakuramen.com
The picnic sacs here are a draw: They might include chewy dried mango, mole popcorn, and cinnamon pan dulce. The lou’s Farmer’s Box gets you the greens. It might come full of fennel, shard, sprouts, and asparagus, plus maybe an add-on like blood orange olive oil. $40, lounashville.com
Along with their popular weekly family meals, check out their website for a weekly CSA box that includes five to seven local produce items, as well as locally made sourdough bread. $50, thepartyline.co
Fresh, Local Veggies, Curated by the Chef
“Since we got our feet underneath ourselves, we’ve added layers and depth. The CSA boxes are coming from all of our favorite farmers,” says Phil Krajeck, owner of Folk and Rolf and Daughters, which started selling produce boxes along with their takeout options this spring.
Filled with vegetables and herbs from a variety of farms—Southland, Rocky Glade, and Sounding Stone, for example—the boxes come loaded with more than a week’s worth of goods. Like Krajeck, a few other restaurants have gotten into the CSA game
Big bundles of freshly picked carrots, beets, and chard are nestled amongst fresh herbs, lettuces, and specialty items like sunflower sprouts in the large cardboard boxes available for pick-up certain days of the week at each restaurant. $45, goodasfolk.com; rolfanddaughters.com
Take a scenic trip down to Franklin and drive up to Southall’s barn, where a bluegrass duo might be playing as helpers fill your trunk with Produce Box—think escarole, frisée, and kohlrabi pulled right from their farm. Add on house-made soaps or their award-winning wildflower honey. $40, southallfarms.com
