On Tuesday, September 1, from 9 p.m. to midnight, over 1,500 buildings across the US will be illuminated red in order to raise awareness that the live events industry is on "Red Alert" and fighting for survival during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of those 1,500 buildings, nine will be from Nashville and include the Ryman Auditorium, the Grand Ole Opry House, Nissan Stadium, the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge, Nashville Metropolitan Courthouse, Ascend Amphitheater, Hilton Downtown Nashville, CMA Building, and Hotel Indigo Nashville in cooperation with the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp.
#WeMakeEvents, #RedAlertRESTART, and #ExtendPUA represent a significant call to action, imploring the U.S. Congress to pass the RESTART Act as quickly as possible, offering economic relief to the live events industry, which has been shuttered since March 2020, putting millions of people out of work. The movement supports ExtendPUA's efforts towards continuing and extending the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance to provide relief to those without work due to COVID-19. Over 82 vendors are behind the industry-wide initiative including Nashville-area businesses Bandit Lites, MooTV, Crew One Productions, Chris Lisle Lighting Design, 4Wall and many more.
"This is an important cause that, if not acted upon immediately, could result in the complete collapse of our industry and the workers who make it possible," says Brad Nelms, director of #WeMakeEvents North America.
