Bite Dentistry
Dr. Cristin Lewis is a second generation doctor of dentistry who’s been serving her patients for 27 years in Nashville. After years of helping her patients smile better, she still felt there was a missing link which led her down the path to become an Airway Mouth Doctor. What is an Airway Mouth Doctor? Dr. Cristin Lewis explains from her practice at Bite Dentistry.
WHAT LED YOU DOWN THE PATH TO BEING AN AIRWAY MOUTH DOCTOR?
In 2017, my husband Jay was struggling with energy and mental focus after being on a CPAP for 20+ years. I knew there had to be other non- surgical options. As a doctor and wife, I knew I had to help him. After reading Six-Foot Tiger, Three-Foot Cage by Dr. Felix Liao, I knew this book’s author held the answer I had been searching for. As a result, I reached out and trained with him.
WHAT IS AN AIRWAY MOUTH DOCTOR (AMD)?
A: An Airway Mouth Doctor (AMD) looks at the oral contribution to whole body health. An AMD believes the mouth is the gateway into the body’s health. They believe a structurally fit mouth will support a structurally fit body. Quoting Dr. Liao, “the mouth is to the human body what roots are to plants.”
HOW HAS BEING AN AMD HELPED YOUR PATIENTS?
After having patients with TMJ, broken teeth, migraines, clinching, grinding, sleep apnea, snoring, back and neck pain, depression, anxiety, PMS and erectile disfunction, we have learned that it is related to impaired mouth syndrome. With our diagnosis and treatment, we have helped our patients breathe better, smile bigger and live a better quality of life. I no longer feel like I’m putting a band aid on the problem, I’m truly discovering what’s the oral contribution to my patients’ issues to help them heal.
