This comprehensive two-hour introductory course provides essential insights into founding an arts nonprofit. Participants will gain knowledge about the purpose of nonprofits, learn how to assess if establishing one is the right path, and understand the process of filing for nonprofit status.

Key learning objectives are:

Understanding what a nonprofit is and why they exist.

Learning how to conduct a needs assessment to determine if an organization needs to incorporate as a nonprofit or work with a fiscal agent/sponsor if the needs assessment shows nonprofit incorporation is not necessary.

Understanding the process of creating a nonprofit from the ground up including how long it takes so that attendees are realistic about the timeline for incorporating a nonprofit.

Reviewing common issues faced by nonprofit founders and how to overcome them.
