As a solo artist and a collaborator with jazz giants from Dizzy Gillespie to Wayne Shorter, the 3x Grammy-winning pianist and composer brings together his Panamanian roots, Latin American folk music, West African rhythms, and European impressionism to create unforgettable, borderless music that transcends genres. Joining Pérez for this performance will be drummer Adam Cruz and bassist Ian Ashby.
Friday, May 17 . . . John Clayton with the Ryan Middagh Jazz Orchestra – A Grammy-winning bassist, composer, producer, and educator, John Clayton has written and recorded with a who’s who list of legendary artists, including Diana Krall, Paul McCartney, the Count Basie Orchestra, Regina Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gladys Knight, and Queen Latifah. Clayton’s arrangement of the “Star Spangled Banner” for Whitney Houston’s 1990 Super Bowl performance went on to become a Platinum-selling smash.
Saturday, May 18 . . . Anat Cohen Tentet – Winning hearts and minds the world over with her virtuosity and delightful stage presence, Cohen has been declared Clarinetist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association every year since 2007 and has also been named the top clarinetist in both the readers and critics polls in DownBeat for multiple years running.
