Visitors can join the museum to learn more about the banjo and try it themselves with guidance from musician and educator Joe Z. Johnson, a multi-instrumentalist, ethnomusicologist and advocate for Black stringband music. This hands-on program will dig into the African and African-American roots of the banjo as well as Middle Tennessee Black banjo history. Participants will also receive a clawhammer technique lesson and learn a song. Old-time banjos provided, or you may bring your own. (Recommended for ages 7 and up. All are welcome)
