AFSP Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk
to
Centennial Park 2500 West End Ave., Nashville, Tennessee 37203
This event will support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education and
support programs and its bold goal to reduce the annual U.S. rate of suicide 20% by the year 2025.
Details and registration can be found at afsp.org/Nashville. This year, the event is merging with “Together We Are Stronger,” a mental health festival that debuted in
2022 honoring Patrick Otto, who died by suicide at the age of 17. Otto’s sister Elizabeth Averill is the
founder, and said she created a festival because her brother loved fun, uplifting environments. “I want
people to be able to have tangible things they can fill their toolbox with. They can try different ways to
attend to their mental health and teach others. Those can range from Zumba, yoga, music, art, journaling,
acts of service, and more,” Averill said. “The event is called ‘Together We Are Stronger’ because we are
meant to live in community not isolation. I truly believe that anything is possible when we work together!”
Following the Walk, attendees can stay in the park and enjoy the festival until 5:00 p.m.
