RAYLAND BAXTER IF I WERE A BUTTERFLY
Rayland Baxter creates a magnum opus of indie experimentalism on If I Were a Butterfly, a transformative set that, like its namesake, never settles anywhere for long. A musical mad-scientist, eccentric meditations and wild-eyed reverie melt into Lennon-McCartney style pop. (Available November 4.)
RANDY HOUSER NOTE TO SELF
In the opening lines of Randy Houser’s sixth album, the country singer says he’s “Still That Cowboy” of his partner’s dreams. But in reality, time has a way of taming a wild side. Mixing rugged experience with vulnerable, Mississippi-wide vocals, Houser reveals his lessons from the trail. (Available November 11.)
VARIOUS ARTISTS LIVE FOREVER: A TRIBUTE TO BILLY JOE SHAVER
Country lost a true original in 2020, when under-the- radar outlaw poet Billy Joe Shaver died at 81. Now, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Margo Price, and more pay tribute to an old five-and-dimer who lived his songs, stuck to his guns and always looked on the bright side. (Available November 11.)
CAITLIN ROSE CAZIMI
Almost ten years after her last album, Caitlin Rose returns as the melancholy master of roots pop. With CAZIMI, Rose’s soft, feathery vocal is back (and often doubled), delivering a witty inner monologue with sharp barbs and a soothing soundscape. It’s easy listening, but it hits like a hammer. (Available November 18.)
