Gone West
Who better to curate the ultimate Summer 2020 Playlist than a group of accomplished musicians?
Made up of two-time GRAMMY award winner Colbie Caillat, multi-platinum singer/songwriter Jason Reeves, four-time Hawaii Music Award winner Justin Kawika Young, and ACM and CMT nominated artist Nelly Joy—it's safe to say country music act Gone West knows a thing or two about good music.
We turned to the quartet, who have just recently released their debut album Canyons, to share the songs they just can't get enough of this season. The outcome? The best eight track summer playlist perfect for long drives with the windows rolled down, lazy days at the lake, or just relaxing inside attempting to escape the Middle Tennessee mid-summer heat.
GONE WEST'S ESSENTIAL SUMMERTIME PLAYLIST
Gone West
"Ottolenghi" // Loyle Carner feat. Jordan Rakei
“This song has been on repeat when I’m driving with the windows down. It reminds me of "The Light" by Common in a way and I love Rhodes over the laid back hip-hop drums. Jordan Rakei on the hook is money too.” -Justin Kawika Young
"Knew You" // Gone West
“The reggae backbeat and the cheeky lyrics make this song perfect for sippin' on something cold in the sunshine. It's a little bit country and a little bit island-y.” -Justin Kawika Young
“Good Time” // Niko Moon
“This song reminds me of Nashville in the summer - blazing hot sunny days with a chance of a sudden tropical rain storm, kayaking down the river with good friends, and drinking a cold beer.” -Colbie Caillat
“Chasin’ You” // Morgan Wallen
“This song I enjoy driving down the lush green back roads of Tennessee with the windows down while I reminisce on life, friends, and love.” -Colbie Caillat
"PDLIF" // Bon Iver
“I chose this song because of the message as well as my love of Justin Vernon's music. Fear is a very powerful emotion and right now it seems especially poignant and relevant. We need to find ways to escape that trap and find freedom in gratitude and love.” -Jason Reeves
"Moral Of The Story" // Ashe
“I love the musicality and vibe of this song. Ashe is a really talented young artist and her writing feels like the walls falling down.” -Jason Reeves
"you were good to me" // Jeremy Zucker & Chelsea Cutler
“I love the sparse intimacy of this recording and the song is heartbreakingly beautiful. Chelsea's voice is incredibly special and believable.” -Nelly Joy
"death bed (coffee for your head)" // Powfu feat. beabadoobee
“There's something about the simplicity of the chorus that's magnetic and nostalgic. It's paired with some pretty dark lyrics which creates an interesting contrast.” -Nelly Joy
