It's fashion designer Jason Wu's first time in Nashville, and we got the scoop on what he's looking forward to ahead of the Symphony Fashion Show on Tuesday, April 17, where he'll be showcasing his Fall 2018 collection.
Nashville Lifestyles (NL): Have you ever been to Nashville? What are you most looking forward to about your visit?
Jason Wu (JW): NoI am really looking forward to the bustling restaurant scene, visiting the Gus Mayer boutique, and catching up with my dear friends Lily Aldridge and Karen Elson.
NL: Can you tell us about your connection to the Nashville Symphony?
JW: My friend Karen Fairchild (with Little Big Town), who I met in Austin during one of her concerts, thought it would be a great idea for me to participate in this event!
NL: Describe the collection being presented at this year's Symphony Fashion Showyour inspiration, what we can expect to see in terms of colors and textures, visual elements, etc.
JW: I am excited to introduce my latest collection to Nashville, which was inspired by various design objects and the works of Ettore Sottsass and Michele de Lucchi. I wanted to explore a rhythm of functionality and innovative design found in objects, like Sottsass' Olivetti typewriter from 1969, and apply that discipline with a sense of elegance to the Fall 2018 collection. Also, I added just for this show a few bold, printed dresses.
NL: Do you have a personal style icon?
JW: Diane KrugerI have always found her personal style to be so inspiring.
NL: Is there a trend you wish would go away?
JW: Underwear as outwear
NL: Is there anyone you'd like to dress who you haven't already?
JW: Tilda Swinton
