Liberty Common, equal parts restaurant, café, and bar, opens today, December 28th, 2018.
The highly anticipated project from restaurateur Terrell Raley and Amaranth Hospitality will be located at 207 1st Ave S, directly across from Ascend Amphitheater.
Liberty Common is a modern Southern brasserie that honors its ties to Europe and old world café tradition. Effortlessly stylish, each detail of the expansive dining room evokes a sense of place and poetry. Offering all day dining, the restaurant will serve breakfast and brunch by morning, lunch by day, and candlelit dinner by evening. At night, the vibrant café will transform into a bar, where a cocktail or aperitif can be enjoyed. The restaurant will focus on an impeccable depth of service, embodying the warmth of Southern hospitality alongside the precision of a classic brasserie.
The restaurant’s menus, developed by partner and executive chef Jeffrey Rhodes, will fuse the technique and sophistication of his classic French training with rich Southern roots. A Nashville native, Rhodes graduated from Le Cordon Bleu and spent many years working in multiple Michelin-starred restaurants across the West Coast. In addition to biscuit and fried chicken recipes perfected over many years, Rhodes’ menus will feature a creative, yet familiar approach to both the French and Southern canon. Other signature dishes will include steak frites, duck cassoulet, and Belgian waffles.
Rhodes’ menus will be complimented by daily-fresh biscuits, pastries, and desserts made in-house by pastry chef Jessica Collins, along with a full café service of espresso, fine tea, and hot coffees. A robust beverage and bar program designed by beverage and operations manager Daniel King will feature innovative cocktails. Robin Riddell Jones of Tavola Hospitality has expertly curated the restaurant’s wine list, which boasts a commitment to sustainably grown and 100% biodynamic wines.
In designing the 6,100-square-foot space of Liberty Common, Raley sought to create a forward-looking design that borrows the essential elements of the traditional brasserie, such as copper pendants sourced from overseas, a brass back bar system, opal glass sconces, and marble architectural features. Avoiding a full-scale reproduction of French-American hybrid bistros, Raley developed a hip and immaculately appointed café for the modern age. The restaurant seats 200 guests indoors, and an additional 50 guests on a traditional French café-style patio along 1st Ave S. The restaurant will offer valet parking as well as self-parking in the building’s adjacent garage.

Raley is considered a visionary of the Nashville restaurant industry, not only for his ability to imagine extraordinary design, but to source and commission custom furniture, fixtures, and architectural elements that bring his spaces to life.
About Jeffrey Rhodes:
No stranger to the upper reaches of the local culinary scene, chef Jeffrey Rhodes has had a stellar career through some of the great kitchens of the United States. Originally from Nashville, TN, Rhodes found an early love for a career in culinary arts, which lead him to work with some of the great chefs of the city. After graduating with a culinary arts degree from Le Cordon Bleu in Portland, OR, Rhodes worked his way through a myriad of Michelin-starred restaurants along the West Coast. A love for his hometown brought him back to Nashville, where he now leads the team of Butchertown Hall and the highly anticipated sister property Liberty Common.
