Benjamin Goldberg is no stranger to the kitchen.
As the founder and co-owner of Strategic Hospitality, one of Nashville’s most well-known hospitality groups, Benjamin and his brother Max have created some of the city’s most beloved dining spots. From the large, jovial Pinewood Social to small, intimate Catbird Seat, their establishments run the gamut.
So when Benjamin and his wife bought their home on Belmont Blvd. in 2012, they took on a huge personal project. Renovating an almost 100-year-old home on a street with a historic overlay had its many challenges, but his experience in his various restaurant kitchens helped him to create a stylish and functional top-of-the-line chef’s kitchen at home.
“We get asked a lot about having two full-size sinks, and I have to tell you, we use them both often,” he said. “It definitely makes the clean-up process faster, whether it’s after we’ve hosted a dinner, or if it’s just cleaning up the one thousand dishes a day my kids seem to go through,” Benjamin laughed.

The kitchen also features Wolf/SubZero appliances, custom cabinetry with plenty of storage, a custom mixed-metal hood, and a drink area complete with a hidden coffee (or wine!) station and a full-size wine refrigerator.
Benjamin’s restaurants are known for the experiences they offer, and his home is the same way.

“We wanted to create different vibes in different rooms,” he said. “The front of the home has a formal living room and library, which are smaller, darker, more intimate. It’s ideal for enjoying a cocktail and conversation,” said Benjamin.
The main living room off the kitchen is a large, light and bright area that spills onto the outdoor space and is ideal for bigger groups or a really nice dinner party on the back patio.
“We’ve hosted everything from Passover dinner to 1st birthday parties in that area and it’s so functional and flexible, there are tons of options.”

And in Covid times, when entertaining is off the table?
“I play a lot of hockey with my 3-year-old son in that living room,” he laughs. “I have to admit, I did not plan for that!”
