Dr. Moody, who specializes in dermatologic oncology and surgery, has been practicing for 17 years.
The Mohs micrographic surgeon counts working closely with patients as a favorite aspect of his job, especially when he can teach them something new.
“The word ‘doctor’ is from Latin and means ‘teacher,’” he says. “I enjoy educating my patients about their situation and how we can work through it together.”
Nashville Lifestyles: What do you love most about being a doctor?
Dr. Moody: It’s rewarding to see successful results and to reassure patients. For patients requiring more advanced oncologic care, I enjoy collaborating with other physicians and being a part of each patient’s care team. About 12 years ago, I cofounded the Nashville High Risk Skin Cancer multidisciplinary team, and we have been working together to help patients with the most serious skin cancers.
NL: What do you enjoy most about your specialty specifically?
Dr. Moody: I enjoy helping patients through a serious and personal diagnosis. Working with the patient, we develop a personalized treatment plan. Fortunately for most patients, skin cancer can be cured with surgery. Mohs Surgery is a highly specialized form of treatment where the surgeon removes precise layers of skin and examines them microscopically until the area is cancer-free.
NL: How would you describe your bedside manner?
Dr. Moody: I am sincere, thoughtful, and honest.
NL: What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Dr. Moody: Oil painting and art are my long-time interests. I love looking at artwork and visiting museums. I paint occasionally and some of my paintings decorate my office. It’s always nice to talk with patients about art. Also, I am always working to improve my knowledge of the Spanish language.
