Nicole Kidman can do it all.
She’s starred in some of the greatest films of our generation, she’s earned an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, and four Golden Globes. She’s both a movie star and a TV star. She has an adorable Nashville-based family, including her equally talented husband, country star Keith Urban, and their two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. She can sing (hello, Moulin Rouge!) and now she can dance like a pro thanks to her role in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the Broadway smash The Prom.
“I had to learn how to dance Fosse,” she says. “It’s taught me how much incredible discipline and grit dancers have. I have a newfound admiration for dancers everywhere, but especially the dancers I was working with. When you learn Fosse, it’s so particular, it’s such an art form. I also had to sing again, and it had been a while. That project was a big stretch for me.”
Though she’s currently in Australia to film the upcoming mini-series Nine Perfect Strangers, Kidman is proud to call Nashville home.
“Keith brought me to Nashville almost 15 years ago and I just fell in love. We wandered around Leiper’s Fork, the gorgeous town, met some of his friends, ate southern BBQ, and rode his motorcycle around. I was such a goner! I suppose Keith Urban makes Nashville home for me, and now of course, my girls. They have deep Nashvillian roots,” she says, adding that this year has given her even more reasons to fall in love with her adopted hometown.
“The resilience, the kindness of the city—[Tennessee] is called the Volunteer State for a reason. I love how everyone’s so willing to reach out and help each other. The strong sense of community is what I cherish. I also don’t mind a little ‘y’all’ with it all.”
