On Thursday, November 8, Montgomery Bell Academy invited the community to Opening Night of its 16th annual Art Show.
This year, MBA commissioned internationally-acclaimed muralist Blek Le Rat as the featured artist at the 2018 Art Show. Based in Paris, Blek Le Rat is widely recognized as a pioneer in the graffiti-art and guerilla art movements, inspiring multiple artists in the genre, including the anonymous, England-based Banksy.
His works are primarily life-sized murals of individuals which he designs to be “little surprises to make people happy.” The artist created a series of six murals on campus and was assisted by students in the MBA Fine Arts Department. Additionally, Blek created an original mural in North Nashville. On Opening Night, Blek’s work culminated in a final, live Mural Painting on MBA’s campus.
The MBA Art Show is an annual, juried event featuring up to 60 professional artists from throughout the region exhibiting and offering their work for purchase at the show. Proceeds from the show benefitted the school’s Fine Arts Department.
