Bonnaroo Inspired art at Nashville International Airport

Five new Bonnaroo inspired artworks hang from the skylight of the Nashville International Airport this year to support the famed music festival and its works fund. Each piece was chosen by a panel of jurors made up of members from Bonnaroo, the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation, and Arts at the Airport. Each work represents the artists’ interpretation of Bonnaroo in varying media. To catch a glimpse before they’re gone, make sure to visit the airport between March 16, 2015 and Jan. 24, 2016!

See the Music

Music rains down from these one-of-a-kind guitars, each one decorated with a different musical concept. The bright colors and bold designs embody the spirit, energy, and atmosphere one could expect from the music festival and everyone who participates. Creator Gail Christofferson loves to work with recycled and non-traditional materials to create murals out of her country studio, Animal House Glass, in Bowling Green, Ohio. Virtual Spaces

Honoring the iconic Bonnaroo logo, Nashville-based fine artist Ed Nash created Virtual Spaces. Much like stepping on to the farm every June is like stepping out of reality, Nash’s piece represents a boundless portal where people can lose themselves and find something unfamiliar.

Dancing Sound Wave

Three artists, Amber Lelli, Sadie Monroe, and Whitney Proper, combined their strengths to complete this piece of positive energy. The original installation mimics the different audiences dancing together on one wave length. Like Bonnaroo’s fans, the dancers take different shapes and colors. The youngest of the artists featured in this installation, Lelli and Proper are both students at MTSU while Monroe is a recent graduate from Columbia College Chicago.

Tentrahedron

Each year on the farm hundreds of thousands of people pop up their tents and enjoy the environment for the next four days. Christopher Field and Sara West tried to recreate the tent city experience with inverted canvas and ripstop nylon. As collaborators, West and Field share a studio and create a wide variety of art pieces and sculptures.

Vortex

Like the festival itself, this piece has to be seen first hand to be appreciated. The swirl of colors and metals represents the mixing of people, music and energy that Bonnaroo is known for. As a Certified Principal Engineer, David Head is able to create kinetic works that are all rare. After 30 years in his engineering career, Head set up shop in Los Gatos, California where he continues to work with new art and technology.
