TWISTER is a daylong event at Adventure Science Center aimed to inform, motivate, and empower middle and high school individuals who identify as girls in grades 7 to 12 to pursue careers in STEAM.
Throughout the day, attendees will hear from a wide variety of esteemed presenters like the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Heather Schwartz, from the Nashville Zoo and Associate Professor of Biological Sciences, Dr. Larisa R.G. DeSantis, from Vanderbilt.
The cost of admission is $20 per student and includes:
- Four, fifty-five-minute sessions chosen by the participant
- Hands-on, real-life STEAM activities
- Catered lunch
- Breakout sessions with like-minded middle and high school teens
- Networking opportunities with professional women in STEAM careers
- Two general admission tickets to Adventure Science Center for future use
Since launching in 2003, TWISTER has impacted more than 1,450 young women and over 400 professional women have volunteered as presenters. In addition, WiTT, Women in Technology of Tennessee, will reward two scholarships to Tennessee high school students, with preference given to those pursuing technology-related careers. The winning award is $5,000 and the runner-up will receive $2,500. Scholarship recipients will be introduced and awarded by WITT representatives during TWISTER.
