Take a Saturday stroll through Cheekwood Estate & Gardens and be in awe of the Black Arts Bash, a vibrant celebration of artists, along with countless activities and delicious Southern home-cooked favorites from local Black chefs.
From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on August 17, Cheekwood will honor all forms of art, including music, visual art, spoken word, and dance from morning to night for the third year in a row. This year, music will be provided by the Black Opry. The Black Opry serves as a platform for Black artists, industry professionals, and fans working in country, blues, Americana, folk, and roots music. The organization is dedicated to eliminating the prejudice and disregard that many Black musicians face in the genres, which elevates the mission behind the Black Arts Bash. But the talent and unity does not stop there. Attendees can also expect a community activity, story time and hands-on activities for kids, and a can’t-miss art show.
The 2024 Black Arts Bash Fine Arts Exhibition features both emerging and established artists, operating as a platform and mentoring opportunity. It is promised to be an intergenerational show that tells stories both big and small. All mediums are encouraged — from drawings, photographs, paintings, digital artwork, small instillations, fashion, animation, film, and so much more — so it is sure to be a diverse and engaging experience. The show will run from August 17 to September 2 at the Frist Learning Center at Cheekwood.
The day is sure to evoke the senses with captivating visuals, delicious food, and wonderous sounds. With a plethora of activities to do and so much art to absorb, Black Arts Bash will entertain visitors of all ages. Tickets are available for purchase online.
