Nashville Lifestyles: Tell us about your “Women and Wealth” series.
David Adams: We are in our second year of hosting amazing groups of women from all different industries and backgrounds and a variety of top notch speakers. It’s an opportunity for women to learn about and discuss important and sensitive conversations around wealth. We’ve also hosted the events at really fun venues and those that support women’s initiatives (like Thistle Farms), and spotlighted women’s businesses during our sessions. Many of our attendees have met new friends and professionals they are working with which is so cool to see!
NL: David, why did you start this program for women?
DA: Women have been overwhelmingly neglected when it comes to education around wealth management, and our industry as a whole has done a horrible job of catering to women. When looking at the stats, approximately 60 percent of the wealth in our country by 2030 will be managed by women! Our team wants to be a catalyst for providing education and a safe and comfortable forum for women to share and gain confidence around all things financial. Also, our team has learned how great women are at bringing friends and family and sharing the wealth of knowledge learned, and engaging in vulnerable conversations. Oftentimes, it’s no secret that men struggle at opening up and showing their emotions, fears, and insecurities around money (or really anything!)
NL: What are the top two (or three) things you discuss there?
DA: Our topics have covered the spectrum from emotions surrounding money, protecting your family’s legacy, nutrition and health coaching, how to teach your children about money, aging parents, and many more.
NL: I haven’t heard of another advisor doing this. How can women get involved and when is the next one?
DA: Exactly! This is why we want to do a great job of leading this initiative in Middle Tennessee, as it gives us great fulfillment to see women connecting with others and gaining confidence around these topics. Our next event is a luncheon at Thistle Farms on August 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the topics will include stress management, financial stressors, and solutions.
