Manduu, an FDA-cleared strength fitness program, has arrived in Nashville with four studios opening in Green Hills, West End, Brentwood, and Franklin.

The idea behind the program is that it uses whole-body electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), where mild electrical pulses are delivered to your muscles via electrodes embedded in workout apparel.
It only takes 15 minutes—but the claim is that, because the workout targets multiple muscle groups at once, it is equivalent to a six-hour strength training workout. The whole-body EMS penetrates more than 95 percent of your muscle fibers in all nine major muscle groups. The science behind it involves supplying oxygen to muscle tissue by breaking down the fibers at their core, resulting in deeper muscle tone.

While each space is different, all are open, bright, and complete with showers and dressing rooms. Inside the studios, there are only two stations, meaning only two people are doing Manduu workouts at a time.
Equipment involves the EMS station, and some light weights to hold like a tennis ball, a rubber grip "pickle," and a light weight bar. Every workout begins with a weigh in that scans your body for a variety of measurements: visceral fat, BMI, skeletal mass, and weight. This data is uploaded to the app for participants to track progress.

After suiting up, a trainer guides you through a series of motions for seven minutes before taking a break; a second series completes the 15-minute workout. Motions include punching, twists, squats, planks; all of the movements are done with your own body weight. The resistance is met from the current in the EMS suit, which makes these movements difficult. The current feels like a tingle—not painful, just an out of the ordinary sensation.
This is a low-impact workout so there’s a low risk of injury, and it can be tailored for each individual. It is meant for people of all ages (18 to 92) and fitness levels, from professional athletes to seniors. manduu.com
