Spring is in full effect, which means it’s the perfect time to revamp your wardrobe and add a dash of seasonal sartorial sass. And to make sure you’re pulling the right pieces for the moment, we reached out to an expert: celebrity stylist Krista Roser. Roser, who splits her time between Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles, has dressed some of the biggest names in entertainment, including FGL (and their stylish wives), Ryan Hurd, Cassadee Pope, Brooke Eden, Priscilla Block, and more, so she was the perfect guest editor to take on the assignment.
We asked Roser to weigh in on her favorite trends for spring, and take note: many of these can carry into other seasons or remain go-tos in your closet for years to come. (kristaroser.com)
Platform Shoes
Many trends from the 2000s are huge for the Spring/Summer seasons. The updated ’00s platform sandal is making a big splash. We are all still getting used to being in heels again after living in sweats, so these make a great transition to getting back into them. Larroude makes several different, great styles that come in so many colors and patterns. (Dolly Mule in pink patent leather, $285; larroude.com)
Fringe
Although in Nashville fringe is not a new concept, it was seen throughout many collections for Spring ’22. Many were shown with more of a vacation vibe than a western one. These make you dream about getting your travel back on—and I think we are all ready for that. Jonathan Simkhai had some beautiful options in his Spring collection. Trench Coats
A trench coat is such an easy piece to layer to add a little bit more to your look. Spring can bring yoyo climates even in the same day, so these are great to have on hand for comfort. I recently got this pastel yellow trench from Ramy Brook and I love it. I can pair it with a floral dress or boyfriend jeans and a white tee for a great afternoon look. Mini Skirts
Yet another ’00s trend modernized for ’22. In all honesty, I am scared of the low waist coming back and have yet to consider it, but I do love that some mini options are coming back strong. They are giving me Clueless vibes and I’m here for it. I just may keep mine higher on the hip. Versace showed so many during their Spring collection and they know how to show leg. (versace.com)
Cropped Cardigans
Another updated ’00s trend that I’m loving is the shrunken cardigan. These are great items to layer over slip dresses, sleeveless tops, or any look that shows more skin on top. They are also really great items for petite people that want to elongate their torso and legs. They were seen in several designers’ Spring collections. I loved the use of color in Brandon Maxwell and Prabal Gurung’s shows. (Brandon Maxwell Strapless Knit Top with Micro Cardigan, $125. Cutouts
The addition of cutouts to otherwise simple designs are something we saw all over the Spring collections. I love that just having a little surprise ventilation on a Little Black Dress can take it up a notch and make it more interesting. However, you definitely want to make sure the cutouts are hitting in areas that are flattering to your shape. But in the right areas they can actually add shape to one’s look. I loved some of the designs from Michael Kors and Christian Siriano showcasing this trend in very different vibes.
