NaSHEville is a brand, a body, and a movement celebrating fierce, grace-filled women in Nashville. Here, co-founder Mattie Jackson Selecman shares what NaSHEville means and how you can get involved.
Nashville Lifestyles (NL): Tell us about NaSHEville—inspiration, background, and how you and Brooke came together?
Mattie Jackson Selecman (MJS): NaSHEville was birthed as a long-dreamed of outlet for founder, Brooke Tometich, to integrate her many different passions and vocations—beauty and fashion, ministry, marketing, and encouraging women and adolescents. As a Nashville native, she knew the world is crazy about Nashville and is eager to celebrate it, and thought:
“Why not a brand that celebrates our city, brings women together, and gives back to women and children in need?”
When she perfected the branding and found a local manufacturer to help curate the product, she was paralyzed at the thought of starting a blog to tell the story of the new brand. So she called on me, a creative writer who felt I was being called away from a career in the wine industry and to a ministry of writing and speaking to women. We're yin and yang; different in every way besides our hearts, which beat to bring encouragement, hope, and love to brave communities of women in all walks.
NL: You take pride in serving Nashville missions. Can you share what those are and what they mean to you?
MJS: We have three core non-profit partnerships that our proceeds go back to: Love One International, Modern Widows Club, and End Slavery Tennessee.
Love One is founded and run by a local woman, Suzanne Mayernick, and her family. They provide housing and health support for orphans and vulnerable children and their families in Uganda.
Modern Widows Club is a national organization to support widows of all ages, and to bridge understanding, comfort, compassion, and positive change between a widow and society at large. MWC launched their Nashville chapter just last month.
End Slavery Tennessee is a pioneer for human trafficking awareness as well as safety and rehabilitation for victims and survivors in Tennessee. A devastating issue desperate for awareness and funds in the Nashville area, we are committed to bringing truth to its depravity and pervasiveness in Nashville. My late husband, ADA Ben Selecman, worked heavily to keep trafficked victims out of prison and into programs like End Slavery.
In addition to our core ministry partners, we host regular events and volunteer opportunities to support different local organizations serving orphans, widows, or trafficked women—e.g. Grace Empowered, EMPower Me TN, TN Baptist Children’s Homes, and Bloom Family Designs.
NL: What products do you offer and where can we find them?
MJS: We are a women’s apparel and merchandise brand—hats, tees, accessories. We love to look cute, be comfortable, all while supporting causes and organizations that serve others. We sell primarily online at nasheville.com, as well as occasional pop-up trunk sales (follow @nasheville_ to keep up!), and soon-to-come local retail partners.
NL: How can people get involved with Nasheville?
MJS: First and foremost, buy and rock our products! Your purchases go back to funding our three remarkable partners’ organizations.
Second, spread the word! We want a community of honest, grace-filled, fierce women to encourage each other and live the lifestyle NaSHEville promotes—communities of love, fun, and mutual passion for serving and sharing with others.
Finally, follow us on social media to both attend and volunteer at monthly events and service opportunities. We want more than women just wearing a brand, we want all our SHEs to walk out the NaSHEville way of life.
