QUESTION: WHAT’S THE LATEST TREND IN AESTHETICS FOR 2023?
ANSWER: At SLK we always strive to bring the latest and greatest from around the world to the local Nashville community. Our providers attend dermatology conferences and pursue continuing education in aesthetic medicine annually to ensure our practice is on par with that of other practices around the world. There is a new injectable therapy that providers and patients are raving about called CaHa. Instead of plumping a patient’s face with foreign hyaluronic acid fillers, the CaHa stimulates the face’s own natural biological processes to regenerate itself. It allows us to keep patients’ faces looking true to their natural genetics.
Q: IS IT TRUE THAT PATIENTS CAN DEVELOP A TOLERANCE TO BOTOX OVER TIME?
A: Immunity to botulinum toxins is extremely rare, however, there are some brands of toxin that elicit more of an immune response than others, resulting in non-response. If a patient is concerned about developing resistance, we offer an alternative toxin called Xeomin which can “fly under the radar” of the body’s immune system better than the other toxins. But in general, toxin resistance is extremely rare and not something a patient needs to worry about. If a patient does become resistant, a 6-month to 5-year hiatus from toxin injections is the only therapy to overcome resistance.
TIP: For a successful anti-aging strategy, schedule a face consultation with your aesthetic provider once annually. The face undergoes age-related changes every year so it is important to revisit a discussion of your goals and progress. At SLK, we provide these consultations complimentary to our patients.
