Terry Allen is a songwriter, recording artist, and visual artist who has been called an Outlaw country lifer and an architect of alt-country. His songs have been covered by Bobby Bare, Guy Clark, Sturgill Simpson, Lucinda Williams, and Doug Sahm, and he has released more than a dozen albums since his 1975 debut, Juarez. Allen’s artwork is in the collections of several major museums, including New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The Museum’s RJ Smith will lead a conversation with Allen and Brendan Greaves, a Grammy-nominated writer and label founder who published Truckload of Art, an authorized biography of Allen, in March. The program will also include music from Allen’s gallery installation Terry Allen: MemWars, performed by Allen and musician, actor, and poet Jo Harvey Allen, who is Allen’s wife. Following the program, Allen and Greaves will sign copies of Truckload of Art. Ford Theater. Included with Museum admission. Program ticket required. Free to Museum members.
