Bad Idea will open in East Nashville on October 10.
The neighborhood spot offers diners and imbibers an explorative, service-forward approach while doubling as a center for wine education. Founder Alex Burch has enlisted Colby Rasavong to helm the kitchen, where dinner and late-night bites will be created drawing from his Lao-American heritage and seasonal ingredients. Housed in a former church sanctuary, Bad Idea’s interiors were brought to life by Nashville-based design studio, Design Object.
At the Bar
Alex Burch, a CMS Advanced Sommelier, founded Bad Idea with the purpose of bringing guests into the world of wine. After leading the wine programs at some of Nashville’s most renowned restaurants, he decided to open the restaurant which is centered around a wine program focusing on variety in style, origin, and availability. He also plans to offer educational and exploratory experiences such as classes and regional dinners. A custom wine cellar keeps up to 3,000 bottles properly stored at all times and the wine list will feature around 125 selections and continue to grow over time.
On the Menu
Bad Idea's menu includes small plates and shareable mains, with dishes like Nam Khao Croquettes, Anson Mills Broken Rice Porridge, and a Scallop-Stuffed Crepe. Larger format dishes for the table include Bucksnort Trout, Royal Red Shrimp-stuffed Trout, Bear Creek Pork Collar, and Chicken Served Two Ways: Khao Piak or Chicken Rice.
Eye for Design
Bad Idea boasts a sprawling horseshoe bar in the middle of the dining room, plus comfortable lounge and bar seating. Original windows and soaring ceilings lend to a light-filled space and warm tones are complemented by pops of rich color. Flexible seating is scattered throughout and custom installations from New Hat adorn the expansive space. Two intimate private dining rooms flank the dining room, while an upper-level balcony is available for semi-private dining and large parties.
