“Fresh and herbaceous, our inspiration was drawn from the Spanish Gin and Tonic, which features elderberries and a lemon wheel garnish: a modern twist on the midcentury cocktail favorite. In the same way, we paired this bold Flavor Paper wallcovering with a vintage midcentury nightstand and a pea green arm chair in its original vinyl. The desert dino art is a playful nod to the Rat Pack era and the infamous Palm Springs party pads. Rich black walnut panels flank the jewel-toned wallpaper and a luxurious tufted mohair headboard pops like the G&T lemon garnish. Completing the look is the addition of a few well-placed brass sconces and a travelers palm.” —Brooke Prince, lead interior designer

“The Design Team at Powell Architecture + Building Studio wanted to create an interesting finish material mix in the lobby at The Russell. The mix reflects the warmth, stability, and character of herringbone white oak hardwood with colorful modern floor tile. The scale was kept small to further emphasize the look of an existing hardwood floor. To create the seamless look, the hardwood is milled at the exact measurement as the tile with the grout added—that way, when they are installed together in the herringbone pattern, it creates a seamless look between both products. The final look created the ultimate in old and new—a thematic narrative that runs throughout the over-100-year-old church turned 23-room boutique hotel.” —Katie Vance, Powell Architecture + Building Studio

“We partnered with our long-time friends, antique and furniture emporium, Architectural Artifacts, Inc., and a Chicago-based design studio Siren Betty Design to outfit and design the space with vintage pieces, found objects, and original furniture sourced from all over the globe, all of which are available to purchase. We wanted to create a space that is visually exciting, but at the same time welcoming. Guests will find a curation of vintage items ranging from a wrought-iron, four-sided glass house with roof crafted by a master artisan in Italy specifically for the hotel, to a brass table designed in the shape of snake with amethyst details and a glass top, all of which work together to make our vision to create a space that is engaging and ever-changing.” —Team behind Fieldhouse Jones

“We wanted the Guest Rooms to be simple and comfortable, with really great essentials you’d want to find in any room on vacation. With 20 rooms, including queen, double queen, king, and bunk bed options, four of the rooms are along the front of the building with floor-to-ceiling windows that give these really incredible views directly onto Broadway. Each room ranges from about 180 to 400 square feet and is outfitted with custom-made oak wall systems, where most of the furnishings hang—the plaid and leather headboards, full-length mirrors, custom clothing hangers, powder-coated pencil cups, valet trays, and coat hooks. We were lucky enough to work with some really great brands to feature in the rooms, so not only are each of the rooms equipped with a linoleum-topped desk and vintage-inspired leather armchairs, but each room features Casper mattresses and Le Labo toiletries. The bathrooms have really beautiful black and cream terrazzo vanities and large, open showers. Our goal with the space as a whole was to create rooms where guests could enjoy their time in Nashville, and on Broadway, and come back to a really comfortable, affordable room.” —Benjamin and Max Goldberg, owners Strategic Hospitality
