Kacie 'B” Boguskie, former contestant on two seasons of The Bachelor is used to being the 'almost” bride, which is why she didn't hesitate when we asked her to don a few looks from local couturier Karen Hendrix. In truth? She's well on her way to planning her own nuptials. And Hendrix was more than happy to give her a head start.
Couturier Karen Hendrix has spent the last 18 years asking brides to consider something old, new, borrowed, and custom on their big day. After unveiling her current collection with a formal couture runway presentation at The Frist Center for the Visual Arts this past fall, we sat down to get her take on the couture experience. 'I want brides to know that they can have anything they want,” she says. 'In a traditional bridal boutique, you always hear brides say ‘I love the dress, but....'”
And that pause is the main reason why many brides are now opting for a custom-made gown. When you buy a designer gown, your measurements are taken and sent off so that a standardized dress can be tailored to your body. However, the experience in choosing your gown with a custom couturier begins at the drawing board. 'When you make a private appointment with me, we start by you telling me your story and how you have always envisioned your wedding day. Then, I work to capture your heart and your day as we begin to draw the perfect dress,” says Hendrix.
From neckline to bodice to train, Hendrix creates a gown made for your style but also your specific body type. 'We accentuate only the positive, and I love daring brides to go bold. Many women don't think they can wear couture. Anyone can wear couture, because it was made for them.” After an average of 23 measurements and two to three fittings, you can walk down the aisle in the dress you always dreamed of, because you helped to create it.
