Nichole Ocepek and Ashley Baker have been friends since they were lab partners in seventh grade science class. Today, the two young women, along with friend Jessa McIntosh, are business partners thanks to their custom furnishing firm, Loom Decor. While Ocepek is the only founder who resides in Nashville (Baker lives in New York, and McIntosh lives in Dallas), all manufacturing is done locally through the South Nashville upholstery service, Kings Interiors, where all of Loom's fabric is housed, cut, sewn and shipped.
The online retailer offers an array of custom duvet covers, shams, bed skirts, draperies, and throw pillows. Customers can choose from over 150 fabrics and customize their accessories to their personal style and taste. Stylists are available for in-home consultations or to chat with customers online. Moreover, the website offers a blog full of tips for DIY-ers. It's the ideal option for those desiring a designer look without the cost of hiring an interior designer. The website allows users to browse hundreds of fabrics and generate their own product mock-ups so they can preview their purchases.
'The goal is to empower people,” says Ocepek, 'because there are a lot of people who know what they want and what they like, and they just don't want what the mass market stores have for that season.”
Loom's products are comparable to offerings from high-end retailers like Pottery Barn, West Elm, and Crate & Barrel, but all customized. Three different price pointsbasic, prime, and luxeallow customers to find pieces that fit within their personal budgets. Products arrive within two weeks of purchase for all in-stock fabrics, and sampling and shipping are free.
