Knickknacks and oddities cover every square inch of D. Luxe Home, a salvaged-goods home store that recently upgraded to a larger showroom inside Marathon Village. Designer Dee Bynum started out with an office for his residential design firm and opened a retail space to showcase his growing collection of revitalized pieces. Bynum puts his expert eye to use by repurposing found furniture, artwork, and decor and revitalizing the stories within them.
'If you destroy things from the past like this, then you will never know about them,” he says. 'It's been awesome to bring back these items for different uses.”
Among the hodgepodge lie old-fashioned playground horses wrapped in burlap, crosses made from pre–Civil War barn wood, locally handmade soaps, and Italian-marble coasters covered in quirky prints. The eclectic mix packs the 1,800-square-foot space, offering a vintage-chic feel and a treasure trove for customers. What's more, Bynum Residential Design will happily help you place that antique lighting fixture in your own home. 'People come in and don't know where to put the pieces they buy,” says Bynum. 'That's where we come in and do our jobs.”
