How did your career evolve into what it is now? What defining steps, pivots, or roles shaped your journey along the way?
Hermitage Golf Course is our family business, so it’s truly all I’ve ever known. That said, I never expected to be sitting in this role today. I started working in the pro shop at 14 and stayed involved on and off through college. In my mid-20s, I joined the company full-time, leading our tournament sales. Over the years, my role continued to evolve, and when our Director of Golf retired, stepping into the role of President felt like a natural progression.
What challenges did you face early on, and what challenges are you navigating today?
Working in a male-dominated industry has certainly been a challenge, but it’s one I’ve embraced and grown comfortable with over time. Today, my biggest challenge and responsibility is continuing the legacy my father and family have built. I’m driven every day to make them proud while building on the success we’ve achieved at the course.
What do you love most about what you do, and what continues to motivate you?
Every day truly is different. While we have regular golfers and tournaments that return year after year, it’s the relationships that make it meaningful; you get to know people and their families over time. At the same time, we welcome visitors from all over who are experiencing Hermitage for the first time. Each person brings something new, and that’s what keeps it exciting.
What role has Nashville played in shaping your career and your perspective?
Nashville’s growth has played a huge role. While the golf industry as a whole experienced slower growth for a period of time, the city’s tourism boom helped drive continued momentum at Hermitage. Interestingly, the pandemic also had a positive impact on the game. As people searched for safe, outdoor activities, golf became an outlet. We worked hard to provide a safe environment, and in doing so, we were able to give people a place to escape. We welcomed many new golfers during that time, and hearing their appreciation reinforced the value of what we do.
