There’s no shortage of success stories in Nashville, and many of those stories belong to the incredible women who are paving their own path and opening doors for generations to come.
Whether they’re building an idea from the ground up, crunching numbers, or working to make a difference in the lives of others, these are the trailblazing women of Music City — and their stories are sure to inspire you.
DAY IN THE LIFE
AT: Every day, I get to help our beloved customers find a gift, a new tablecloth, or just a little trinket. It means so much when the right gift or idea falls into place. I also buy for the store. I place orders daily, whether it is a special order for a customer or inventory for the store. I love picking out new merchandise. I also love styling our display tables and our display cases. It’s my creative outlet. Merchandising is a big part of my job and helping our customers to think outside of the box. I pay the bills, help do the bookkeeping, gift wrap, and register our brides.
SDR: As our parents taught us at a young age, it’s an honor and privilege you never take lightly. Behind the scenes, I manage the bridal registry online, run our website and social media accounts, gift wrap, purchase for the store with Ashley, and occasionally I’m the shipper. I’ve worked every position in the store.
THE NASHVILLE WAY
SDR: I am a fourth-generation Nashvillian, and my godfather was Michael Corzine who started the business in April 1971. To be a part of the Nashville retail landscape for 54 years as a business? To successfully run that business with your family for 20 of those years? It’s nothing short of awesome. Our customers, our community — that’s everything. It’s not just running a transaction, it’s let me see the pictures from the wedding, or the latest picture of the grandchildren, when the anniversaries and birthdays are. Sometimes it’s just someone who wants to come in and look at some beautiful things because they had a bad day. Nashville is so ingrained in us, and we are ingrained in it.
ADVICE FOR OTHERS
AT: I would tell young women if they want a career in retail, go work retail. You have to be flexible as you wear many hats, and every day will be different. You have to be willing and open to make mistakes, because you will! It’s OK! You have to take chances. Buy what you love and buy things out of your comfort zone. Your customers all have different tastes, so you have to have something for everyone. I am more traditional, and Samantha is more modern, so we know if we both love it, we have a home run. Owning Corzine’s is so rewarding, and I would not change careers for anything.
