She also has a tremendous passion for philanthropy, including her work through The Rahm Foundation, which she founded to partner with other nonprofits to change the world.
At the heart of her many ventures is one mission: help people build healthy environments and meaningful lives by eliminating negative influences. Her commitment to innovation is fueled by a passion to help people — both right here in Nashville and around the world — live healthier, happier lives. And her story is one of inspiration as much as it is achievement.
Finding Strength: I grew up in Dexter, Missouri, a small town where community and family meant everything. Growing up there shaped who I am today. As a child, I was passionate about science, art, and finding ways to help others. I always had a deep curiosity about the world and how I could make a difference. As a mother of four, I went through a lot giving birth. I had cancer, illnesses, I lost a child, and had another child with cancer. I went through a lot, and it was a turning point for me because it made me realize that I had a choice. I could either hide in my bed and give up, or focus on my mission every day, and do something meaningful with my life. So, I focused on my faith, and that is when I knew I was going to be OK.
Beyond the Business: These [business] ventures represent a collective mission to improve health, wellness, and the environment for people around the world. My way of turning challenges and hardships into meaningful solutions can impact lives on a global scale. Everything
Be the Change: As a scientist and mother, my top priority in all my ventures is to make life healthier and happier for people, for animals, for the environment, and for future generations. One of my career's most significant achievements is that we have just now purchased our own manufacturing and research facilities. This control allows us to perform R&D [research and development] on the patented and trademarked processes and inventions I've developed over my professional and academic career. I am now able to more efficiently create formulations and products that are more bioavailable, safer, and more effective for global use. These products contribute to the well-being of humans, animals, environmental health, and the efficient use of energy. Leading and serving with love, peace, and light are the principles that guide all our endeavors.
What Defines You: I believe the main thing that has put me on this path to fulfill my mission in life is following what my mother and father taught me: to follow God, to be a good person, and to not give up. I pray every day to live up to this calling. When I can’t do it on my own, I lean on the people around me and something much higher than me that can carry me. That’s what has made me who I am. I don’t define myself as successful. I define myself as always learning and trying to be the best version so I can help others.
The Necessity of Failure: I’ve had a lot of failures in life, probably more than anyone I know. One of my biggest failures was running a company as a CEO that was not very profitable at first. It was hard. I disappointed investors, the people within the company, and myself. I worked so hard. I had little kids at the time, and I was trying to drop them off at sports, art, and music while running these businesses and working 80 hours a week. I couldn’t be everywhere, so I missed some of my kids’ events, and I felt like a failure. I didn’t quit. I kept learning. I kept trying harder. I kept loving my kids and trying to be present whenever I could. I had two options: to fail as a scientist, or I could push forward. It was easier working for biotech and pharma because of the support. Doing it on my own was much harder. I chose to keep going, and I feel like God carried me through that period. I became a stronger mother, woman, businessperson, and scientist. Failure has made me a stronger person.
Most Meaningful: My greatest accomplishment is raising my amazing children, Duquense, Preston, Crider, and Merritt. Every struggle I’ve endured has shaped me into a better mother. Being there for them as they grow has been the most rewarding experience of my life.
