Specializing in internal medicine, Dr. Patterson has spent 18 years practicing in Rutherford County, where’s been on staff at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center since 2013.
But he’s been sure of his career path since high school.
“My ninth grade biology teacher, Peter Melcher, was very inspiring,” he says. “He also taught a 12th grade class at the same time that he felt to be underachievers. In order to motivate them, he taught us their AP Bio curriculum to show even freshmen could learn it. AP credit was given for the course and it gave me confidence that I could get into medical school.”
Nashville Lifestyles: What do you love most about your job?
Dr. Patterson: I love the people. My patients trust me with their most personal and intimate matters. It is my honor and privilege to be the physician chosen by my patients. Each patient is unique and has totally different needs. A treatment that works for one may not work for someone else. Being an internal medicine physician has brought me into the lives of people whom I wouldn’t have met if I weren’t a physician. Some of the most interesting people I have ever met came into my life because I’m a physician.
NL: How would patients describe your bedside manner?
Dr. Patterson: It is very collaborative. I feel the relationships that I cultivate with my patients are what make my practice different. I think the cohesiveness, friendliness, and the stability of our staff is something that really gives us an advantage in understanding our patients and helping them create healthier tomorrows. We all work together to create an environment that makes our patients comfortable.
NL: What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Dr. Patterson: I love dogs, CrossFit, and travel.
