What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I am not “on” all the time. I am a very outgoing person, but when the show is over, I really enjoy my alone time. I love to get back to the hotel and just watch TV or Tik Tok.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am really proud that I have continued to grow, learn and push myself after all these years. It takes a lot to keep going in the music business, and I am very proud of my longevity.
How would friends describe you in three words?
Big, fun, and extra.
Tell us about a skill or activity that you’ve always wanted to try or one you’ve learned and mastered?
Prior to my life in music, I was a cake decorator. I loved that job. There was a great deal of satisfaction in it. It was really fun and creative and I really enjoyed working with my hands on something tangible.
Name the person who has been the greatest influence in your life.
My husband, Ian. We have grown and evolved together over the years, and he always supports me and my career.
Name an organization or non-profit that you affiliate with outside of work and why it’s important to you.
Nashville Cat Rescue. I am a cat lady! NCR works really hard to find homes for these kitties. They have saved a lot of lives.
Tell us about someone you consider a hero and why?
Tess Holiday. She is champion for plus people, and her work influenced me in a way that was life changing. She puts herself out there everyday, and takes a lot of heat for being fat and happy. In my own small way, I do this work. It’s not easy, people can be very cruel. She and other brave fats have changed the world.
What are a few of your favorite places in Nashville?
I love this little cafe inside a market called “King Market” in Antioch. It’s the best Thai food here. I am also really into the popcorn over at Kernels on Gallatin. My fave bar right now is Sid Gold’s Request Room. It’s so much fun, they have piano karaoke, which is like just a blast. I just think it’s a really special place. I also love Lipsticks and Play. I am very into the LGBT+ scene. Lesbian bars and Drag shows….. It’s just great vibes.
Tell us about your routine/tips for looking and feeling great inside and/or out (salon, spa, fitness, wellness, well-being, etc.)
I meditate. I go to therapy. I know that’s not like the glamours answer. (and you know I love glam) but for me, selfceare is about stopping to really honor your spirit. We have all been through so much in this world. I have been working hard to untangle myself from past trauma for a while now, and it’s been a god send.
Now if you are talking Glam, I love a good mani pedi. I wish they were cheaper here. When I lived in Chicago it was like $25. I went every two weeks. But at any price, you have to treat yourself sometimes. You deserve it.
Describe your perfect day.
I would like this day to be in the fall, about seventy-two degrees and sunny. I would be with my family, and we would laugh and eat Italian foods. Maybe we would rent a super nice Air B and B in Vermont or something. Just being together is really rare these days, and that would be my perfect day.
Do you have a favorite quote you live by that you would like to share (and why)?
I do have a mantra. I like to say “Everything always works out for me” it keeps me calm and centered.
What is your definition of beauty—as it pertains to yourself and/or others?
Well for me, beauty is about self-love, fearless and shameless self-love. It’s the magic ingredient. It took me years to get to this place, and it’s a daily practice to stay here. I follow others on my socials who reflect and inspire me. You’d be amazed how much that one small change can do for you. Try it!
