What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
Most people may not know I auditioned for Annie on Broadway in NYC when I was about seven years old. I didn’t get the part because I was too young, but I remember it being such a surreal experience. Also, we just so happened to be in town during the “Tin Cup” premier so we got a glimpse of Kevin Costner getting out of his limo for the red carpet!
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
In 2017 I made some really tough decisions both personally and professionally that allowed me to step out on my own. It was scary and lonely at times, but ultimately it led me to so much freedom and self love that I didn’t know I was missing out on. I’ve accomplished things like getting a Grammy nomination, winning The Voice, etc that I’m extremely proud of. But that process of freeing myself was the hardest of them all and I succeeded.
How would friends describe you in three words?
Empathetic, funny, and driven.
Tell us about a skill or activity that you’ve always wanted to try or one you’ve learned and mastered?
I’ve always wanted to do voice over work. I’m a goofball and put on random voices all the time, so being hired to do the voice of an animated character of some sort would be right up my alley. My Russian accent is pretty spot on if I do say so myself!
Name the person who has been the greatest influence in your life.
I can’t think of anyone who has influenced me more than my mom. She became a single mother when I was eleven and did so with strength and vulnerability. She showed me what it means to be an independent woman, making her own way.
Name an organization or non-profit that you affiliate with outside of work and why it’s important to you.
I’m passionate about a few organizations. One of which is the NAACP, who advocate for civil rights and social justice. I’ve done a lot of work around anti-racism over the past year and a half and they are always on the front lines of making sure federal policies don’t deactivate against our BIPOC communities. I also work a lot with Unlikely Heroes, who provide safe homes and restoration services for victims of human trafficking worldwide. Once I realized just how many children we lose to human trafficking per day, I just had to get involved in some way.
What are a few of your favorite places in Nashville?
I love Lockeland Table, Culture and Co, Exit/In, Two Rivers Dog Park, El Fuego, Posh, East Nashville Farmers Market, and Lawrence and Clarke Cacti Co.
