OZ Arts Nashville kicks off the sixth season of its TNT (Thursday Night Things) series this month with Ghosted, a performance by Nashville-based artist Tony Perrin.
The series shines a spotlight on local artists of different disciplines. Ghosted explores the various definitions of the word “ghost,” from the idea of a spirit to the word’s latest meaning, such as when someone cuts ties in a relationship without any further communication or explanation.
Inspired by the concept of loss, Perrin began to research mourning jewelry from the Victorian era.
“I found that loss, more physical loss during that era, was culturally woven into a beautiful, visual conversation between people. I wanted to explore that conversation and look at loss from a different perspective,” he says.
The performance begins with dancers, photographs, and jewelry designed by Perrin himself. It then crescendos into something larger, with shadow boxes showcasing more jewelry, a photography installation, and another dance performance.
