Juneteenth marks the oldest nationally recognized commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Here are some meaningful ways to celebrate African American history and culture right here in Music City.
One of Nashville’s biggest Juneteenth celebrations returns with music, food truck fare, a kids corner, a firework show, and more. Celebrate the national holiday on June 19 at Fort Negley Park. The event is open to the community at large and is held from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
Liquor Lab is partnering with Nearest Green Distillery and the Longest Bar in the World bringing you ‘Drinks of Humble Baron’ at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 19.
Music City Juneteenth Freedom Day 5K Run/Walk
Run, walk and dance in the third annual Music City Juneteenth Freedom Day 5K Run/Walk, featuring DJ 50Cyn at Shelby Park in historic east Nashville.
National Museum of African American Music
Commemorate freedom through the power of music by exploring African American musical traditions with interactive exhibits, live performances and community engagement. The museum will also have a special activation Nashville's historic Fort Negley as part of the citywide Juneteenth615 celebration.
Celebrate Juneteenth with musical guests, a historical panel discussion and hands-on history activities in the galleries. Storytime and craft activities for families will also take place throughout the day.
In partnership with the Black Business Coalition, Williamson Inc. will host a Juneteenth breakfast for a morning of reflection, celebration and community.
