When David Adams isn’t leading Adams Wealth Partners, he’s helping families build a healthier relationship with money—starting with the youngest savers in the house. His new children’s book, Jolene and the Three Buckets, uses a playful pup and a simple “save, spend, give” system to teach kids the building blocks of financial responsibility. With Honey the dog by her side and Adams’ guidance given throughout, Jolene shows how small choices can grow into smart habits and generous hearts. One hundred percent of profits benefit Nashville-based dog rescue Wags and Walks. Order here by Dec. 9 to receive it in time for Christmas.
Nashville Lifestyles: David, how did you come up with this idea for a kid's book?
David Adams: Honestly? It started with a treat-obsessed dog named Jolene and a simple question I kept hearing from clients: “How do I teach my kids about money?” I wanted to make financial literacy sweet, not scary — and who better than two lovable dogs to show the way?
NL: What can kids take away/what impact would you like to make with the book?
DA: I hope they laugh. I hope they learn. And most of all, I hope they walk away knowing that money is a tool — not a goal. If they can learn to spend with joy, save with purpose, and give with heart... that's a win.
NL: Can you speak to the importance of introducing financial literacy at a young age?
DA: Kids are smart. They’re watching and listening way earlier than we think. Teaching healthy money habits young is like planting seeds that grow with them. The earlier we start, the less we have to “undo” later.
NL: Tell us more about the Three Buckets?
DA: The Three Buckets are simple: one for Spend, one for Save, and one for Give. We believe every dollar (or dog treat!) has a purpose — and these buckets help kids think about how to balance all three.
NL: What can parents expect from the book?
DA: They’ll find a story that’s fun and easy to read… with hidden wisdom baked in. It’s a chance to bond, laugh, and open the door to conversations most families don’t know how to start. Plus, the dogs are pretty cute, and the surprise squirrel at the end.
NL: We know Jolene is your fur baby — talk to us about the charity connection with Wags & Walks?
DA: Jolene’s not just a book star — she’s our firm’s Director of Stress Management (yes, on the website and her own business cards!). We’re partnering with Wags & Walks Nashville to help more dogs like her find loving homes. A portion of every book goes to support their amazing work. It’s our way of giving back, bucket-style.
