The Bookshop
Nashville's only queer-owned bookstore, Novelette, is a groovy safe space for book lovers of all ages. At this local gem, books are hand-picked with an eye for inclusivity and diverse authors.
For Independent Bookstore Day, patrons can expect a free Novelette postcard with their purchase. Additionally, new tote bags will be sold for $15 instead of $25 on Independent Bookstore Day only. Once you're done adding new books to your never-ending to-be-read list, head over to The Yellow Table Cafe where there will be Arnold Palmers on special; Just order "A Quart of Tea and Lemons." (1101 Chapel Ave., Ste. 108)
Like Greek Mythology's Mount Parnassus, Parnassus Books is Music City's home for literature and learning. Owned by celebrated author Ann Patchett, Parnassus stocks several genres including an extensive local author selection.
The schedule for the day features a morning story time with Emily Arrow, then later book signings with Tyler Merritt and Patchett herself. There will also be Parnassus coloring sheets, giveaways, and exclusive Independent Bookstore Day merchandise. (3900 Hillsboro Pk., Ste.14)
Fairytales Children's Bookstore
Fairytales Bookstore is what dreams are made of. The children's book and toy store is aimed for kids ages 0 through 14, and offers books, games, toys, art supplies, and so much more.
Their Saturday celebration is packed with family programming all day long. Expect free face painting, storytimes, sing-a-longs, puppets, comedy, and a craft table. All day food and drink vendors include Linden Bake Shop and Aguas Frescas from Besitas Nashville. (1108 Woodland St., Unit G)
The Bookshop is an adorable and inviting neighborhood nook. Whether it's your first visit or umpteenth time browsing, The Bookshop community welcomes you with open arms.
The festivities are as follows: Guests can purchase a limited-edition blind date with a book with a bookstore setting. A Libro.fm golden ticket will be hidden in the store, earning its finder 12 audiobook credits. Spend $10 and spin The Wheel of Bookishness for a prize. Spending $100+ will get you a free tote bag designed by The New Yorker illustrator Adrian Tomine (though a limited supply of totes will be available for purchase). All totes, prizes, and blind dates will be available in limited quantities. (1043 West Eastland Ave.)
