With a rich and philanthropic history, upscale retailer Oak Hall is bringing more than just clothing to its new Hill Center location. Founded in Memphis in 1859, Oak Hall was one of the first ready-to-wear menswear stores in the country.
The shop expanded into women's apparel more than three decades ago and, in turn, grew into a new Memphis flagship location. The Levy family, who has been at the helm all the way, expanded its own footprint, opening vineyard vines by Oak Hall in Memphis in 2008 and Nashville in 2010.
'We have had our eye on the Hill Center for a long time, but they recently found a way to create a space large enough for us to offer the full Oak Hall experience,” Will Levy says.
In April, the doors opened on phase one of the Oak Hall expansion. The 2,000-square-foot space is the beginning of a two-part project, which will eventually become an expansive retail destination for shoppers. By fall, Oak Hall will grow to 10,000 square feet, offering ample room for lofty brands, like Ermenegildo Zegna, Canali, Samuelsohn, Peter Millar, Eton, Faherty, AG, rag & bone, Rebecca Taylor, and Vince.
The Levys are incorporating their commitment to community in their new home, as well. Just like in Memphis, the Nashville Oak Hall outpost will partner with local charities. For the shop's opening week, they donated 10 percent of sales to local organizations, including Blood:Water, Phoenix Club of Nashville, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, YMCA of Middle Tennessee, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Iroquois Steeplechase, and Team Chad.
'Our Nashville store is committed to the Nashville community beyond an in-store retail experience,” store manager Chris Levy says. 'We are committed through a philanthropic perspective, as well."
As for the city itself, the Memphis natives see the capital as a fashionable fit. 'Nashville is a metropolitan city, where first impressions and attention to detail truly matter,” Will says. 'Clothes make a difference. Our growing clientele in Nashville understands that."
