When Southern California native Katie Convertino, the designer behind June Park children's apparel, learned that her husband had been accepted to a master's program at Vanderbilt University in 2012, she didn't foresee herself planting roots in Nashville.
'I said, ‘We're moving for two years and that's it, then we're going back,'” she recalls. '[But] we've really fallen in love with the city.”
The demands of her husband's program coupled with being new to town left Convertino looking for something to do outside of her full-time job at a software company. Desiring a creative outlet, Convertino took up sewing. What began with designing Halloween costumes for her nieces and nephews evolved into developing a line of baby and toddler clothing and accessories. In April 2014, Convertino launched June Park with a vision to create 'minimal, simple styles that both parents and their kids like.”
'I want kids to want to wear these clothes,” adds Convertino, who is expecting her first child in January.
The line features practical and timeless piecesthink leggings and T-shirtsfor newborns up to size six, with custom sizes and designs available on request. Everything is made in Convertino's home using U.S.-sourced organic cotton fabrics whenever possible.
