Hive & Colony, a premier clothier for bespoke menswear, is the newest addition to an ever-growing landscape at The Mall at Green Hills. What started out as a mobile concept is now a blossoming business with showrooms nationwide.
In 2008, Hive & Colony took to the streets of Manhattan with their Tailor Truck, a large rental truck turned mobile showroom. Personal stylists used 3D body scanning technology (similar to the body scanners at the airport) and manual measurements to help tailor the perfect suit to each individual.
Business boomed, and in 2016, Hive & Colony opened their first brick- and-mortar location in Boston. Since then, the company has focused on expanding not only through E-commerce but also with showrooms across the nation, including the new Nashville outpost. Always passionate about menswear, Hive & Colony identifies with strong craftsmanship, quality, and teamwork, similar to worker bees building their hive. Much like the hardworking species, the company fully dedicates their attention to every square inch of detail, from the quality of fabric to each client’s individual needs.
The process starts with booking an appointment to ensure a personal and intimate experience. From there, the team at Hive & Colony will walk you through the entire process, from the very beginning stages of taking measurements, to the designing and fitting, to the arrival (and try-on) of each custom suit. After an initial consultation, a full body scan using an iPad captures precise measurements (roughly 300 to be specific) and gets the perfect fit for any body shape and size. Clients then sit at the in-store bar (with a whiskey in hand, if preferred), to discuss their vision.
During this one-on-one process, a stylist helps clients choose fabric from more than 500 different luxury materials in an array of colors, patterns, and textures. Hive & Colony sources fabrics from some of the most renowned mills around the globe, including an exclusive collection of bamboo fabric made by Reda, the only factory in all of Europe that makes the material.
The process then moves along to selecting accessories (buttons, lapels, lining, a monogram, and more). To ensure that each accessory is unique, Hive & Colony uses their connections with the fabric mills to find manufacturers that provide products meant to help complete the look. Whether it’s imported English brass for the cufflinks and suspenders, gemstones embellished on the cufflinks, or 100 percent pure silk for the ties, the company takes it to the next level so that everything has been curated to fit the clientele. With close to 100 different design options, the menswear is truly one-of-a-kind.
