While it might seem a bit early to think about what you are going to wear this fall, just keep in mind those cooler temperatures may arrive without warning. Our advice: start planning now. Designers offered a little bit of everything on the Fall 2022 runways. To make it easy, here are six styles you may want to put on your list.
Equestrian
All things equestrian should be on your list for fall. Find unbridled style in tweedy, hacking jackets, knee-high boots, and horse-bit inspired prints. These casual pieces can be easily incorporated into your existing wardrobe for a weekend in the country or even in the city. (Look: Tory Burch)
Long & Lean
In response to recent seasons’ thigh-grazing minis, the maxi is back. Floor-grazing lengths show up in skirts and column dresses. Think bias-cut and long lines (not body-con). This trend doesn’t stop with skirts and dresses: loose, exaggerated, menswear-inspired trousers offer a relaxed, paired-back option. (Dress: Dior)
Power Dressing
We can always expect an adaptation of suiting each season. Suiting resurfaced for 2022 with a bolder look, incorporating power shoulders, borrowed from boys’ tailoring and oversized proportions, all perhaps due to a shift towards “back to the office.” Le Smoking, a.k.a. the tuxedo, is also a prominent eveningwear trend within this category. (Look: Ralph Lauren)
Trench
This basic is reinvented for fall. Designers incorporated trench coat details in everything from skirts to dresses. The classic coat itself gets a major makeover with added pleats, corsetry details and unconventional colors. (Look: Saint Laurent)
Westward Bound
The wild West is alive and well. Footwear trends lean toward cowboy boots and shoes with western inspired details. Leather fringe finishes off looks in both accessories and clothing, while endless versions of classic denim (especially paired with white) will have you saying, “yippee-ki-yay!” (Nashe Boot in Vanilla)
Bohemian Rich
In keeping with the idea of slow fashion, homespun and craft-inspired looks are alive and well for Fall 2022. Think timeless and a bit off-beat, with the look of a piece you may have picked up in a vintage store or found while traveling abroad. Textured knits with a handmade look, quilted robe-style coats and all things leather have nostalgic edges. (Look: Chloe)
