According to an article on The Tennessean, five Nashville non-profit organizations have been gifted millions of dollars from Yield Giving.
Established by MacKenzie Scott, philanthropist and former spouse to Jeff Bezos (executive chairman of Amazon), the Yield Giving initiative shares a financial fortune created through the effort of countless people. To date, their network of staff and advisors has yielded over $17,300,000,000 to more than 2,300 non-profit teams to use for the benefit of others.
The Nashville organizations that were awarded were chosen from an open call pool of more than 6,000 applicants. In total, 361 community-led non-profits were chosen.
Nashville Organizations
- Nurses for Newborns: Serving families in Middle Tennessee who need support around their pregnancy and care for their newborn with a goal to prevent infant mortality, child abuse, and neglect. Gifted $2,000,000.
- Mending Hearts: A recovery based therapeutic community forewomen facing addiction and co-occuring mental health disorders. Gifted $2,000,000.
- The Nashville Food Project: A community food project that brings people together to grow, cook, and share nourishing food. Gifted $1,000,000.
- Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition: A statewide immigrant and refugee-led collaboration with a mission to build power, amplify voices, and organize communities to advocate for rights. Gifted $2,000,000.
- NICE (Nashville International Center for Empowerment): Empowers refugees and immigrants with resources and opportunities that will aid them in their resettlement and equip them to be successful in the future. Gifted $2,000,000.
